'No Exit Wound' marks the powerful debut of True North, a new project from songwriter Tones Thorburn (Stormporter, Late Model European), based in Auckland, New Zealand. Blending rock and soul with rich, dual vocals and emotive instrumentation, the track explores themes of resilience, love, and inner struggle. Produced by Ben King and featuring a lineup of seasoned NZ musicians—including Matthias Jordan, Milan Borich, and Sandy Mill—the song is a groove-driven, soul-stirring introduction. The self-directed music video visualizes the song’s emotional depth, playing with light and shadow to reflect the tension between hardship and hope.

Tones' musical journey is a testament to passion, resilience, faith and authenticity. With a sound that resonates with the soul, True North's music is a powerful storytelling experience. The heartfelt pull of these songs transcends boundaries, inviting listeners to embark on a transformative journey.

True North's debut single, No Exit Wound, was released on May 16 during NZ Music Week along with a self-produced video. A debut EP/album is in the works and will follow a little later in 2025; announcement and release date to be advised in the coming months.

Produced and mixed by revered Producer, Ben King, and graced with the musicianship of some of New Zealand's finest talent, these songs depict themes of love, life, pain and healing, hope and faith.

Featuring: Tones on vocals and guitars; Matthias Jordan (Pluto, Come Together) on piano, electric piano and organ; Milan Borich (Pluto, Come Together) on drums; Ben King (Goldenhorse, Grand Rapids) on bass and backing vocals; Sandy Mill (Sandy Mill, The Bellbirds, Basement Jax, to name a few) on vocals; and introducing Edith and Clementine Bainbridge-King on percussion.
